PEARLS
OF
PROMISE
It was an old boat, brown in colour and empty of life.
I was very alone yet I felt very safe.
I stood at the wheel and now I could see I was
almost at the shore line.
Strange that such a large boat could navigate
in such shallow water.
My only cargo was the trunk which was locked.
I had no idea what was inside of it.
I knew only I needed to make the delivery.
I didn't know who held the key.
I only knew that I did not.
The boat seemed to be piloting itself and
I was just along for the ride.
Then I could see people on the shore.   The boat was almost on the beach when it stopped moving.
Not sure what to do, I waited.  Then a black man, large in stature and very muscular, boarded the boat.
He proceeded straight to the trunk, picked it up as though it were weightless and carried it on his shoulder to the beach.
I followed him and noticed his strange dress.   It was very short, toga-like, unusual, nothing I had ever seen before.
On the beach there were four other people, one of them a very young girl.
They seemed very excited and happy about the  arrival of the trunk.
The black man
placed the trunk on the beach
and then we all just stood around for what seemed the longest time.
I wondered why no one attempted to open the trunk.
But finally a young blond man arrived.
Maybe he had the key.
I was surprised when he simply lifted the lid with ease and suddenly
from the trunk arose the most beautiful colours.
Everyone on the shore, the black man, the blond man, the little girl, the others and myself,
all stood in a circle with our arms around each other.
We were wrapped in light.  We were lifted by the colour.
Rising, we were leaving the earth.   Through the colour, the light, I looked down at the darkness of a loveless planet.
I could not stop the tears.  Overwhelmed by sadness yet overjoyed to be on my way.
